Lauren Bianchi’s Womanifesto:
Not Disgusting
Not Disgusting
Not Disgusting
We bleed, ooze, shit and vomit, our bodies are not disgusting. We get spots and sometimes we squeeze them, it’s not disgusting. We have toenails that get long and have to be cut, our bodies are not disgusting. We can touch and we can feel, our bodies are not disgusting. We get white, brown, red and sometimes greenish discharge, but it’s not disgusting. Sometimes we want to fuck you, that is not disgusting. We have hair covering most of the surface area of our bodies, which is not disgusting. We breathe, we live and we begin and we are not disgusting. We smell, sweat and get sticky, our bodies are not disgusting. We are not clean, we are obscene, but not disgusting. We get old and our skin sags, and it is not disgusting either. We produce life and we die, and we are not disgusting. We excrete various substances, natural and otherwise, but our bodies are not disgusting. We can produce chemical and physical reactions - these are not disgusting. We stop working like we used to, our bodies are still not disgusting. We get angry, really, really fucking angry because our bodies are not disgusting. We refuse to acquiesce to what can only be described as a conspiracy of silence; our bodies are not disgusting.
