Crystal Lambert’s Womanifesto
I am:
- daughter, sister, lover, friend, student, teacher, poet, past, present, future.
- powerful, optimistic, nervous, quiet, boisterous, faithful, cynical, hypocritical, confident, lost, exactly where i should be at all times.
- i am on the edge of all things.
- i am able to love and be loved, no matter what.
- i am more than the sum of my parts and all of those parts around me.
- i am my own beautiful human being.
I am not:
- something to be trodden upon, in any situation.
- a product of my environment.
- a crutch to lean upon at the detriment of my own well-being.
- a girl, in your sense of the word. anything you project upon me, for that matter.
I vow:
- to never again sacrifice my happiness to make someone comfortable, nor will i expect anyone else to do so for me.
- not to conform to society’s idea of masculine power and confidence, nor to that of feminine fragility, but to create my own brand of strength that transcends the bounds of gender.
- not to make clothing and makeup decisions based on anything but my own perception of myself.
- to speak firmly against any injustice committed in my presence.
- to never be afraid of expressing and valuing my own sexuality.
- to stop apologizing so much.
- to question and reject any product that comes from men claiming to know what is in any woman’s best interest.
- to search for god independently, and in unexpected places.
- to support the endeavors of other women in order to sustain much-needed community.
- to regard my ladyfriend and my best friends as whole human beings i could never fully discover, and appreciate each and every one of their complexities.
- not to tolerate anyone treading over my boundaries, and to always respect the boundaries of everyone else.
- not to let fear, in any form, get in the way of the things i want to do.
- to overcome my obstacles in ways that may also help other people.
- to talk about my vagina as much as possible.
- to take responsibility for myself, and to expect others to do the same.
- to honor each and every one of my memories without letting them cloud my judgment on the present.
- to plan the future as much or as little as I wish without letting it cloud my judgment on the present.
- to let my heart and my hands do nothing but love and worship and create, and to let my brain and my mouth do nothing but learn and share wisdom.
- to love myself unconditionally.
- to see the beauty in all things.
