Amy Grant’s Womanifesto

we'll draw birds in our check books
we will not be afraid that the world will crumble
even if it rattles and shakes

we will put our sock feet on the table
and not yell at each other
while eating oats
crusty-eyed

at work we will hold hands
we will forget the plow
we will be subject to change
when we move out we'll forget our shoes

we will clean our teeth
and our homes and our streets
and between our toes

we will not always use good punctuation
we'll forgive

we will laugh at each others red cheeks
puffy lips and swollen eyes
after we've cried for an hour
and hug
and how
